Sd.Kfz.251/20 "Uhu"
Kit # 2014 Preview by Rob Haelterman - heman_148(at)hotmail(dot)com

This conversion set will turn the Hasegawa Sd.Kfz.251 (Ausf.D) kit into a Sd.Kfz.251 Ausf.D with infrared projector, aka Sd.Kfz.251/20 "Uhu". I can only assume the Sd.Kfz.251/1 kit is meant by that, although I guess that the /9 and /22 by Hasegawa will do as a donor kit as well. It is also very likely that the new Dragon kits will do too. While the instructions do not mention this, you will need to make sure you base your conversion on an Ausf.D kit, as this version was only produced in that subvariant.

The set comprises 23 resin parts, a fret of PE and a sheet of clear acetate. I am not sure the latter is included on purpose, as it is mentioned nowhere in the instructions. Apart from the parts needed for the projector and scope for the driver, you also get (I guess) wooden slats that go on the superstructure sides and some parts to improve the Hasegawa kit:
- front panel for the radio
- rear doors with opening mechanism
- rear licence plates
- lifting hooks and small items

All resin parts are mouded in crisp tan resin and the steel-colored PE set looks top notch too. All parts come in a cardboard-cum-plastic blister.

The manual is very clear and shows the limited number of modifications that need to be applied to the base kit, as well as the assembly for the parts specific for the "Uhu". A camo & marking suggestion is also given, as are painting instructions for the subassemblies. No decals are provided.

Note that this kit is very similar to kit 72001 by CMK, which is a combo kit containing the original Hasegawa Sd.Kfz.251/1 kit as well. However, some differences can be noted:
- The PE set in this kt is much more limited than in the combo set
- The combo set also contains an engine for the Sd.Kfz.251 kit.
