German Flak Crew
with Winter Smocks

(a.k.a. Flak Crew No. 5)

Kit #: FIG043 Preview by Stephen 'Tank Whisperer' Brezinski - sbrez1(at)comcast(dot)net
Edited by Marc MERCIER

This small-scale figure set is comprised of five pale green, cast resin figures in German winter uniform of the WW2 period. There are three standing, one sitting, and one kneeling figure. In references I have not yet found the quilted blouse of the figure with the binoculars and I suspect it may be Russian, the Axis troops were known to use a significant amount of captured Soviet winter clothing.

This set of figures have realistic poses but the proportions appear to be off, miss-proportioned; by this I think that several of the helmets are too large and some legs too short. For example, the seated gunner figure at lower right has legs that would not reach the peddles of my ACE Flak 38 kit. I had to saw off the boots, extend the leg length with copper wire and build up additional legs with model putty, Xacto knife and a fine file.

Overall I like these figures and think they will really add life to a small scale Flak gun kit. They may also be usable with other models such as artillery and vehicles.

Clean the casting lubricant and dirt off the parts first with warm water and mild detergent. Check your references for uniform colors.
