Making width indicators with setting pins

  Article by Rob Haelterman

As articles go, this will be a very short one, as there is really not much to it.

Some AFV kits come without the typical width indicators found on some vehicles; if the kit has them, they are often overscale and fragile. While BP Resin makes some very nice width indicators, with the correct attachment and a fine and smooth round head, they are rather expensive.

A cheaper alternative can be found when turning to another hobby: that of butterfly collecting. These hobbyist use setting pins, some of which have round heads. When using the right size (000 or 00 would do fine for smaller vehicles) and cutting them to the right length, they make for very convincing width indicators.

(Thanks to Robert Kru for the tip.)
