Wild-Lupinen
Wild Lupines

Kit #: 1217 Preview by Rob Haelterman

This set gives the modeler 54 five lupine flowers (in three sizes), but surprisingly only 40 stems (in 10 sizes). The modeler is meant to place them in groups of three flowers on a small base (together with other leaves of different shapes and sizes), 16 of which are given. This means that 3 times 16, or ... 48 are needed. Fortunately, stems can easily be created with some stretched sprue made from the green left-over sprues of this set.
The flowers come in three colors: a pale pink and two very closely matched shade of purple.
The flower heads are a bit too straight to be convincing but I guess there is a solution to that.

If this set is really meant to represent Lupinus perennis then the internet teaches me that the species is native to the Eastern USA. Fortunately many other lupine species exist that look very similar and can be found all over the world. They are now even considered weeds in some places, like Iceland and New Zealand. Even then, I am not sure how common they would be 75 years ago in the ETO, MTO, PTO or other battlefields.
